Guan Yin Si-Penang / 觀音寺-檳城

Guan Yin Si-Penang / 觀音寺-檳城.

Location:- Burma Road, Penang.

Walking along the row of shops at Burmah Road (now known as Jalan Burma ) in the evening brought my attention to this brightly lit temple. Thinking that the side door is still open, I decided to go in for some photos. But was kindly told by the caretaker that the rest of the hall has been cleaned up and closed for the night so I decided to return the next day.

This temple houses three different hall devoted to different gods. The center main hall has 3 altars, the center altar is devoted to Goddess Guan Yin / Guan Yin Pu Sa / 觀音菩薩. The altar on it’s left is devoted to Guan Di / 關帝 or it’s Buddhist name called Qie Lan Pu Sa / 伽藍菩薩 (along with other deities) and the altar on the right is devoted to Wei To Pu Sa / 韋陀菩薩 along with other deities.

The left hall is devoted, if correct to Cheng Huang Ye / 城隍爺 along with it’s huge Da Er Bo Ye / Tua Dee Ya Pek / 大二伯爷.

The right hall called Dou Mu Gong / 斗母宮 is devoted to Dou Mu Yuan Jun / 斗母元君 and her sons, The Nine emperor god / Jiu Huang Da Di / 九皇大帝.
