Ci Bei Bai Yun An-Johor Bahru / 慈悲白雲庵-新山

Ci Bei Bai Yun An-Johor Bahru / 慈悲白雲庵-新山.

Location:- Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Johor Bahru, Johor / 亚福街, 新山, 柔佛.

The first time I saw this temple was around 1996 and something that happened nearby back then made me use this temple as a marker for future remembrance. The second time would be about 2006. On both the trips, I have only a glimpse of this temple and had never visited it. The developments in Jalan Wong Ah Fook has change drastically. To avoid getting lost in this busy town the next day, a friend and I decided to recee the area a night before. The night drive did brings back many fond memories of my previous visits.

We were circling around Jalan Wong Ah Fook a couple of times but we still couldn’t spot this small temple that i have seen on first visit to this town.

At first thought, this wooden temple that is builded many years ago would have moved to another location due to the major developments on it’s surrounding. But it was actually due to the fact that somebody has builded a huge billboard in front of the temple. Luckily the persistence paid off.

On my visit, The caretaker was busy cleaning up the altars and it was great that he was willing to explain bits about this place. I was told that this small temple have existed before World War 2 but he couldn’t specifically tell which year. i also came to know that during those day, the temple surrounding were fill with wooden houses. People around there would often visit the temple for prayers.

There is two altar in this temple, the main altar is devoted to Goddess Guan Yin / Guan Yin Pu Sa / 觀音菩薩, Lord Guan / Guan Di / 關帝, Ji Gong Huo Fo / 濟公活佛, Wei To / 韋陀 along with others deities. The other altar is devoted to Na Zha San Tai Zi / 哪吒三太孑. There is an old photo of it’s the temples founder on the side of this altar too.

On the outside, there is a joss furnace and a shrine which is painted green that houses their Yin Tan / 陰壇. In here you will find an altar devoted to the city god Seng Wang Yeh / Cheng Huang Ye / 城隍爺 along with Da Er Bo Ye / Tua Dee Ya Pek / 大二伯爷.

Well in the end, I hope this temple would still be here on my next visit.
