2013-Muar 9 Emperor Festival / 麻坡斗母宮九皇大帝誕

Location: Muar, Johor / 麻坡, 柔佛.

Photos taken on 2013 during the street parade of the Nine Emperor God / Jiu Huang Da Di / 九皇大帝 festival held by Dou Mu Gong / 斗母宮 in Muar, Johor. This time around, the celebration was grander than my previous trip. The street parade is held on the 8th day of the festival and many other temple from around Muar would participated in this event. Many of these temple brought along their own Hua Che / 花車. A Hua Che is usually a car or truck that is decorated beautifully for the statue/deity to parade the street. Other participance carries their temple statue on a palanquin / 轎. Dragon and Lion dances are also seen parading along. Definitely an great event.

A little further away from the previous temple, we a saw a little signage by the side of the road leading to this temple.

Situated on a much higher ground overlooking a large field, its surrounding is decorated with chinese medicated liquor bottles. Even the stair rails and part of the walls of the main prayer hall has these liquor bottles build in them. Not sure if all is empty but its definitely a unique site.

Fu De Ci-Teluk Kumbar / 福德祠-公芭

Fu De Ci-Teluk Kumbar / 福德祠-公芭.

Location :- Teluk Kumbar, Penang / 公芭, 檳城.

Could also be known as Ju Bao Tang / 聚寶堂.

After a visit from the previous temple, we continue our journey to my job site located further south of this island. On arrival, we came upon this temple located at a corner with a natural stream flowing on the opposite. A few local were busy washing their motorcycle and cars with the water from the flowing stream. There wasn’t much information that I could obtain as there wasn’t anybody around. Located slightly elevated off the road, this Da Bo Gong / 大伯公 temple is a beautiful relaxing place to stop by. It also has a shrine dedicated to the worship of its local deity Na To Gong / 嗱督公 by the side.

Its prayer hall has three wooden plaque on its main altar. Chinese couplets / Dui Lian / 對聯 (pairs of auspicious poetic phrase) are carved on the side plaque while the center plaque is carved with the name of it main patron deity Fu De Zheng Shen / 福德正神 aka Da Bo Gong / 大伯公. This deity is usually depicted as an old man with long white beards holding a wooden staff and a gold ingot. Another signage in this prayer hall suggest that it could also be known as Ju Bao Tang / 聚寶堂.
