Tan Gong Miao-Tanjung Tualang / 譚公廟-丹戎督亞冷

Tan Gong Miao-Tanjung Tualang / 譚公廟-丹戎督亞冷.

Location:- Jalan Homan, Tanjung Tualang, Perak / 丹戎督亞冷, 霹雳州.

aka Tam Kung Miao.

After a visit to a orang asli village nearby, we decided to have lunch at a small-town known as Tanjung Tualang. This small town was once a bustling tin mining area in the early 1900s. And today, it is more famously known for its large freshwater prawns.

After a good lunch at the nearby restaurant, I’ve decided to have a walk around till I came upon a Pai Lou leading to a temple. This temple is dedicated to the worship of its patron deity Tan Gong / 譚公. This deity is known to have special ability to forecast the weather and to heal diseases. It has a large hall right in front of the temple for it festival purposes.

Its interior is fill with wall painting of deities. These includes The Eighteen Arhats / Shi Ba Lou Han / 十八羅漢 and 8 Immortals / Ba Xian / 八仙. There is no historical record on when this temple is establish but there is a bell hanging in the temple engraved with the date GuangXu year 33 (1907). It also states that this bell is donated to the temple on an auspicious date by a company called Yi Shun (義順公司). This would give some clue to it founding date.

It’s center altar is dedicated to the worshipped of it’s main patron deity, Tan Gong / 譚公. On its right, the red faced, Guan Sheng Da Di / 關聖大帝 and on its left, Goddess Guan Yin Pu Sa / 觀音菩薩.

An adjoining altar to the left is dedicated to the worshipped of Tai Sui Ye, Da Bo Gong / 大伯公 and the Laughing Buddha, Bu Dai / 布袋 aka Xiao Fo / 笑佛. Another altar adjoint to the right is dedicated to the worshipped of Qing Shui Zu Shi / 清水祖師 along with small plaque behind listing names of multiple celestial deities. The god of Prosperity, Cai Shen Ye / 財神爺 and Tian Hou Niang Niang / 天后娘娘 is also worshipped on this side.

Other deities worshipped in this temple includes Da Bo Ye / 大伯爺, Marshall Zhao Gong Ming / 趙公明, Tiger General Bai Hu / 白虎, Na To Gong / 嗱督公, etc.

No further information can be obtain here as there were nobody around during our time of visit.

Fu Quan Miao-Batang Kali / 福泉廟-峇冬加里

Fu Quan Miao-Batang Kali / 福泉廟-峇冬加里.

Location:- Kampung Bukit Chandang, Batang Kali, Selangor / 峇冬加里,雪蘭莪.

Registered as Persatuan Penganut Dewa Kuan Sheng Ti Batang Kali in 1994.

Travelling from Fraser Hill to Kuala Lumpur, we stopped upon this usually quite village of Batang Kali for some evening tea. This village is known now Kampung Bukit Chandang after a change of name from Kampung Baru Batang Kali.

Batang Kali was mainly developed due to the rise in tin mining and rubber plantation in the 19th century. There isn’t much history I could uncover beside the 1948 massacre tragedy that you could search online for more detail.

Located a top the village with a green hill as it’s background, this temple has been the place of worshipped by the nearby local for many years.

It has a Pai Lou / 牌樓 in front of the temple that can be seen from the nearby main road. A wooden staged use for its festival purposes is also constructed nearby with two stone lion guarding the temples entrance.

The temple caretaker were about to close up the place when we arrived but he was kind enough to let us document this premise before doing so.

This temple houses three altars in the main prayer hall with painting of the Si Da Tian Wang / 四大天王 on both wall. The centre altar consist of three sections. Enshrined on the center section is their main patron deity, the chinese god of prosperity and war, Guan Sheng Da Di / 關聖大帝 also commonly known as Guan Di / 關帝. The left section is dedicated to the worshipped of Liao Fu Da Ren / 廖府大人 and Huang Li Da Shi / 黄利大使 while the section on the right is dedicated to Tong Yuan Zun Wang / 通遠尊王 and Xuan Tian Shang Di / 玄天上帝. The altar to the far right is dedicated to the worshipped of Fu De Zheng Shen / 福德正神 or more commonly know as Da Bo Gong / 大伯公 and the altar to the left is dedicated to the founder of this temple.
