Fu Ling Gong-Serendah / 福靈宮-双文丹
Location:- Serendah, Selangor / 双文丹, 雪蘭莪.
Serendah, is a small town located between Rawang and Hulu Yam. This place were developed due to tin mining in the mid 19th Century. We decided to make a weekday trip to avoid the crowds on the weekends at the same time checking out the new developments in this area.
We were at a coffee shop when we found out about this temple which is located near the Hokkien association.
With a huge space and a stage in front, i believe its festival days should be very grand. There is two huge stone Lion painted in gold facing each other in front. Both is said to be carved in 1916. Both are Fence up, maybe, to prevent vandalism or for other reasons.
It has a really grant entrance with huge banners above the main entrance. There is three banners, two of it is made in 1903 and the other is on 1917.
We found the caretaker of this temple and he granted us permission to take photos on the inside. He was helpful and explained a bit about the area and the temple.
On the main prayers hall, there is three altar. The altar on the left is devoted to Lord Guan Di / 關帝 along with many other deities. The center altar worships Guang Ze Zun Wang / 廣澤尊王, a famous red face boy, patron deity worships by the Hokkiens. On the Right, an altar is devoted Goddess Guan Yin / Guan Yin Pu Sa / 觀音菩薩.
The temple is establish in 1869, and it is great that they still have some relics from over a century. On the side hall, there are many photos of the temple from way back then. I hope the committee have digitize copy of these photos as the original is starting to fade off.

Fyi,a local told me that the stone lions are kept in cages bcs it seemed they came “alive” at night. To prevent them from eating up people the temple committee decided to “cage” them up after reports of the “life” lions were made. I don’t know how far this myth could be believed but this is an old place of worship. I wouldn’t want to meet with a life lion at night.
Thanks for the info.
Hai, the temple committee has put up an exhibition hall in 2012 introducing the historical background of the temple and a number of antic displays. You are welcome to revisit the temple. TQ.
Thanks for the invite. Will make time to revisit this place. Cheers.
