Shui Yue Gong-Terengganu / 水月宮-登嘉楼.
Location:- Kampung Pulai Baharu, Kuala Terengganu / 蒲莱新村, 瓜拉登嘉楼.
Ever since my visit to the central temple in Kampung Pulai, Gua Musang, Kelantan / 布赖, 话望生, 吉兰丹. I have much mention to my friends about it’s branch in Kuala Terengganu. It was from the committee members of the Shui Yue Gong there that I came to know about this temple in Kampung Pulai Baru, Kuala Terengganu.
In the 1950s, Under the “Briggs Plan” during the Malayan Emergency, residents in Kampung Pulai, Gua Musang, Kelantan were forced to relocated to a new village called Kampung Pulai Baharu in Kuala Terengganu.
The Hakka chinese from Gua musang brought along their deities from the central temple there and rebuild a wooden temple here in this new village. This temple too was named Shui Yue Gong following the original temple name where these deities arrive from. Shui Yue Gong is translated to English as Water Moon Palace/temple.
It was only in 1972 that the original statues returned to the original temple in Gua Musang, Kelantan.
Today, this temple is fully rebuild with recreational halls on it’s side with the help of public donations. The design of this premise is very unique and is rarely seen around. The deities on the altar has been replaced with new statues.
It was great that during our visit, a long time devotee from Kuala Terengganu was there to explain a little about this place. According to him, there is about 30-40 chinese families in this surrounding area. So when there is a feast, everybody would be invited. I was told that the sword on the altar was made by his father whom is a blacksmith and the sword is use when the medium go on trance during their festival.
Sitting on the main altar from left to right are Xian Ren Shu Po Tai / 仙人叔婆太, San Ma Niang / 三媽娘, Er Ma Niang / 二媽娘, Da Ma Miang / 大媽娘, Goddess Guan Yin / Guan Yin Pu Sa / 觀音菩薩, Lord Guan Di / 關帝, Cai Shen Ye / 財神爺, Tan Gong Ye / 譚公爺 and Da Bo Gong / 大伯公. Tu Di Gong / 土地公 is also worship in this temple.
The Ma Niang are commonly known as Goddess Mazu / 媽祖 (also known as Goddess Tian Hou / 天后娘娘).
